The world-famous town of San Gimignano, with medieval city centre, is located in the upper Val d’Elsa in the province of Siena and has about 7.000 habitants. The city is located on a hill, which has been previously inhabited by the Etruscans. However, San Gimignano from 1199 to 1352 has been a free community before getting in the power sector of Florence. San Gimignano is known in the whole world for its numerous preserved towers, while in many other cities they got destroyed. The Town has preserved almost unchanged its medieval appearance. Since 1990, the historic centre is part of the World Cultural Heritage. One of the most famous and most beautiful places in the small town is the Piazza della Cisterna , which is surrounded by medieval palaces and adorned by a small fountain in the middle of the square.
